The 6’9, 205-pound 2019 prospect is a rare stretch four for his age and presents a lot of upside. He has long arms, a big frame and explosive. He’s extremely athletic for his size, an elite finisher and has great body control in the interior. Carey’s an exceptional passer, and has a good feel for the game.
His raw talent is scary and wows the crowd on the regular with powerful slams. He’s grown seven inches in a year and his dad, Vernon Carey Sr., was an 8-year NFL pro. He’s also deceptively quick off the dribble from the top of the perimeter, and his long range shooting ability makes him special. His handles seem to be the only thing he needs to keep improving upon.
Carey led Nike Team Florida’s 15U team to the Disney Easter Classic title. He also averaged 14 points and eight rebounds for University High as just a freshman.
He holds offers from Baylor and Georgia State. He’s drawing interest from Florida, FSU, Michigan and Texas A&M.
Carey is liking the recruiting part of basketball.
“I don’t have any favorites at this point,” Carey Jr. said. “I’m just enjoying the process.”
Carey detailed his game and offseason plan,
“I’m an outside and in type of player,” Carey Jr. said. “I’m improving my ball handling and communication on the court.”
But Carey sees himself playing a different position in the future.
“ I want to move to a three at the next level,” Carey Jr. said.
Expect Carey to blossom into a big-time high major plus prospect.
