Oak Ridge’s Mike Devoe is a rare commodity being arguably the top true point guard in the state.
The 2018 6’4 guard can dissect a defense with precision passing and a versatile playmaker. Devoe has dazzling handles, an ideal frame, great finishing ability and a crafty scorer. He’s got a pure stroke from deep and an intriguing lefty. He also plays passing lanes exceptionally well. He’s a true student of the game and always has a ball in his hands.
Devoe can be simply be described as a smooth killer.
Devoe had a stellar season and averaged 18 points, seven assists and four rebounds a game in leading the Pioneers to the 8A region semifinal.
He holds offers from USC, Miami and UMass. Devoe is drawing heavy interest from Ohio State and UCF.
Devoe doesn’t have any favorites. But one school has piqued his interest.
“I really love Ohio State’s coaching staff and what they did for D’Angelo Russell,” Devoe said.
He described his game and offseason plan.
“I look for my teammates first and am a pass-first point guard,” Devoe said. “I’m working on my mid-range shot because I do a lot of floaters and long range shots. So I really want to develop that part of my game.”
Devoe wants to continue playing his natural position.
“I’ve always played the point my whole life,” Devoe said. “Having that 6’4 frame, I think the point is a great position for me.”
Devoe has co-anchored E1T1’s undefeated 16 U squad the past two weeks. They’re arguably the top 16U AAU team in the state. Expect Devoe’s stock to continue to rise.
