Recruiting Report: Luke Anderson (2018)
Lakeland has a bright future with Florida’s 8th ranked 2019 Luke Anderson.
The 6-foot-7 forward is already generating some high-major Division I interest — albeit initial interest — and could blow up this summer on the 15U grassroots circuit.
Last offseason Anderson played his grassroots ball with Showtime Hoops, but says this spring and summer he’ll pursue other options.
“I’m really looking into all the travel teams. I’ve had Nike Team Florida, Nike South Beach, Thunderstruck, and all these teams are coming to try and get me. Showtime Hoops just wasn’t the right fit for me I don’t think. So I’m still undecided,” said Anderson, who mentioned what his personal goals are for his 15U season.
“I’m pretty well-known for a freshman, but I’m trying to become a better overall player. I’m trying to be one of those that when he walks in the gym everyone knows who he is because he’s such a good player. And I want to be known for my work ethic and finish this summer well — that’s my goal.”
Though he hasn’t received anything near an offer yet, Anderson says some D1 coaches have been inquiring about him.
“I’ve received letters from UCF, and I went to an unofficial visit to Florida last week. And Florida State knows me real well, I was supposed to go to an unofficial there during a football game but couldn’t make it,” said Anderson. “ And my Showtime Hoops coach said Kansas State was talking to them about me too, and a couple other schools I can’t really think of.”
A versatile and good-sized forward, Anderson prides himself on being able to play inside and outside. He defined his playing style to PHF.
“I can play wing, but If I’m needed in the post against bigger and stronger players then I will do that too. I see myself as a three at the next level, who can play the four,” said Anderson.
“When I workout I do all midrange, pull up jumpers, 3s, and I can get to the cup real well for my age.”
He added: “I need to work on dribbling overall, just get my handles better, and just get a little more comfortable with my mid-range jump shot. Those are the two things that I need to work on the most, and that I do work on the most.”
