Continue ReadingLake Highland Prep point guard Jose Placer — Florida’s 34th-ranked 2018 — is gearing up for an important 16U season where he hopes to make an impression on some Division I coaches.
When we last talked to Placer last July, he mentioned East Tennessee State, Colgate, Denver, Villanova, and Boston College were interested.
He says he picked up some additional interest this winter.
“Temple came and saw me play, and Stetson came and saw me play twice. And then UCF too has shown some interest,” said Placer.
The 6-foot-1 sophomore played with Nike Team Florida, and explained to PHF why he decided to switch programs and play with Showtime Hoops this spring and summer.
“Nike Team Florida kind of broke up, so I talked to the people from Showtime and they said they’d love to have me — so I thought that would be the best thing for me,” said Placer, who explained his goals sot the offseason.
“I’d like to pick up some offers, but also just win games and also have a good time, look good, and just play basketball really.”
The talented point guard says he averaged 15 points, four rebounds and 4.5 assists per game this season for the Highlanders.
“For me my role was just to keep everything together, and my coach definitely wanted me to score, and to get our bigs involved, and our shooters involved. I just needed to do a little bit of everything,” said Placer.
“My leadership has definitely improved a lot. I’m talking a lot more on the court and really been trying to control everything out there and really trying to control everything from the guard spot.”
