The 6’2 combo guard showcased his smooth handles, knockdown long range jumper and crafty scoring ability all season long. He averaged a county-high 23 points, eight rebounds, five assists and five steals a game this season. Oppenheimer proved he’s a winner by leading the Bulldogs to their first state semifinal appearance since 1966. He was named the Tampa Tribune’s Pasco County player of the year for his efforts. He also has an impressive 3.7 GPA and wants to major in Accounting.
But college looks have still been hard to come by. Oppenheimer holds just one offer from Southeastern, an NAIA school. He’s also acquiring interest from Div. 2 Saint Leo, Nova Southeastern and Embry Riddle.
It’s been a tough process for Oppenheimer.
“I just want a chance to prove everyone what I’m capable of and what I can do,” Oppenheimer said. “
But the gritty Oppenheimer is keeping the faith.
“I just put God first and believe everything will happen for a reason,” Oppenheimer said.
Oppenheimer will take an official visit to Southeastern on March 31st.
“I go to a lot of open gyms at Southeastern, and I really like it there,” Oppenheimer said. “I just want to take an official there, and if it goes the way I think it will, I’ll probably commit.”
