The 6’4 wing has all the tools and impressed mightily at Source Hoops and Hoop Exchange Travel team Jamboree last night. Shaneyfelt showcased fluid ball-handling, a high motor and a knockdown long range shot. He’s a pesky on-ball defender and reads passing lanes well. He also possesses that rare talent of making players around him better.
But his high game IQ and precise passing ability for his long ideal frame makes him a next level talent. He’s exciting to watch. Plus his dad, Tom Shaneyfelt, is the head basketball coach at Clearwater and has over 700 career wins. So, you know he’ll already have a strong work ethic by the time he hits high school in the coming months.
Shaneyfelt shot an impressive 8-14 from beyond the arc in two games at the tourney. He doesn’t hold any offers or interest. But that could change soon. His assistant coach David Thorpe, an NBA trainer and ESPN analyst, believes Shaneyfelt has a high ceiling.
“I’ve been coaching Shaneyfelt and my son since the sixth grade on the same AAU team,” Thorpe said. “I definitely believe Shaneyfelt is a high major prospect, “He’s grown seven inches in two years and might not be done growing. He’s an elite athlete with great size and a hot motor. That alone puts him in rare air amongst wings.”
Shaneyfelt will be playing with the Tampa Tarpons in the AAU circuit team this summer. He’s a prospect on the rise and a big name to remember.
