What a difference a year makes. Last season, Ford averaged two points a game and saw the floor minimally at Gibbs. A year later, he transferred to St. Pete and blossomed. The 6’7 2017 forward came on strong down the stretch of the season and helped the Green Devils reach their first state final since 1935. He averaged nine points and a wowing 13 rebounds a game. Ford was relied upon for cleaning up the boards and finishing second chance put backs.
But Ford showcased a new element to his game at the HoopsExchange/SourceHoops Florida Travel Team Jamboree this past weekend. He displayed driving ability from the perimeter. Time and again, Ford attacked the basket with aggressive slashes. This added skill will be crucial for his recruiting.
“I see myself becoming a wing at the next level,” Ford said. “So, I’ve been working on improving my guard skills. Mainly ball handling, shooting and finishing at the rim.”
Ford delved into his recruitment.
‘I’ve drawn recent interest from Northeastern, College of Charleston, Indiana State and Eckerd,” Ford said.
Ford has basketball in his blood. His brother Quincy led Northeastern to the NCAA Tournament last year for the first time since 1991. His other brother Sajon also plays for Northeastern.
Ford will be playing with MBC Elite on the AAU circuit. He’s flying under the radar. But expect Ford’s recruitment to pick up steam.
