The 6’3 2018 combo guard has a lanky frame with long arms. Last year, Smith was primarily a shooter and pass-first guard. He’s transformed into an aggressive, athletic slasher who can score in a variety of ways. When he drives, he’s looking to dunk all over you. He possesses a tight handle and court vision. He can sky for boards, has a dependable jumper and dangerous in the open floor. He’s also a lockdown defender with his length and lateral quickness.
Smith has basketball in his genes. His mother, Tamika Coley, led UCF to the 96’ NCAA Tournament and finished as the school’s all-time leader in points and rebounds. She was also inducted into the Knights’ Hall Of Fame. So, Smith presents a lot of upside.
Smith averaged 16 points, a team-high seven assists and six rebounds a game this season in helping the Green Devils reach their first state final since 1935.
He has no offers yet, but that could change very soon. He’s drawn recent interest from Miami, Virginia Tech, FIU, UCF and USF.
“I’m just trying to play as much ball as I can this summer and get better,” Smith said. ‘’I’m going to keep grinding and my time will come.”
Smith is a starting guard on Each 1 Teach 1’s 16 U team for the AAU circuit. Expect his recruitment to take off.
