Continue ReadingTyler White was a mediocre shooter last season as sophomore with Durant, but this season he’s transformed himself into one of the state’s best.
He currently leads the state with 88 3-point makes (in 19 games), and is shooting at a high clip of 43 percent. Last season the 6-foot-2 shooting guard shot just 30 percent from deep.
“My shot is getting deeper out and I’m shooting 43 percent from 3, last year I only shot 30 percent from deep,” said White – PHF’s 106th-ranked 2017.
His shooting prowess has drawn the attention of at least three college programs, and he’s hoping for a big-time 17U season this spring and summer.
“No offers right now, but North Florida is starting to talk to me a little bit, I just talked to their assistant coach yesterday,” said White. “And then Stetson, and Palm Beach Atlantic are both starting to show interest in me.”
White plays his offseason ball with Southeast Elite. He played with the black team last season, and says he might play with the elite team this spring and summer.
“I’m just hoping I have a good AAU season, and hopefully pick up some offers,” said White, who mentioned the recent evolution of his game to PHF.
“I’m working on my speed, and being able to blow-by my defender whenever I want. I feel it’s getting easier for me to get buckets whenever I want, everything is just slowing down for me out there.”
Along with his adept outside shooting, the talented junior is averaging 23 points per game. He says his role with the Cougars is to score the ball.
“I’m just supposed to score the ball, come out there every night and knock down shots, and get to the rim.”
