Jackson had basketball offers from Division III programs University of Catholic in Washington DC, and St. John Fisher in New York.
He says he has talked with the football coaches about walking on with the Hurricanes’ basketball team, and they think it’s a good idea.
“I’m going to try and play basketball there as well. They (football coaches) said they would have no problem with me walking on with the team, they encourage it,” said Johnson. “I don’t think it would be a problem if I could try and walk-on for the basketball team and help them out.”
The bruising defensive specialist described his hoops style to PHF.
“I’m aggressive, I hustle to everything, and just do whatever I can for the team. And whenever I’m on the court I make the most of my minutes,” he said.
“If I wanted to play in college I would need to work on my ball-handling. I try and come in 15-20 minutes before practice and get some ball-handling drills in with my coach.”
Johnson was starting with the Raiders earlier this season, but gave his spot up – he thought it would help the team.
“It was a little rough starting two big-men at once,” he said. “I think I’ve been OK, I’ve had some really good games, I’ve had some OK games, but I’ve always had great defensive games,” said Johnson, who described his specific role with the team.
“They just need me to be a defensive player, and score whenever I touch the ball. And whenever I’m in the paint, they need me to dominant.”
