Because his football team — which he quarterbacked — saw so much success this fall, advancing to a state title game, the talented hoopster missed half of his basketball season.
But now he’s back into the groove on the hardwood, and is eager to get into his 16U grassroots season.
“I haven’t heard from any schools yet, I’m hoping to hear from them this summer though,” said Jackson, who says he’d consider football or basketball interest right now.
“I’m open right now, whether it’s basketball or football. I’m good at basketball, and I’m really good at football, but I would play either in college,” he said.
“This offseason (with SEBA Elite) I’m hoping to average more all-around points and just help my team to win. And I think if I do that I can get some colleges to notice me. I play harder than anyone on the court, that’s how my mentality is, and I’m just hoping colleges see that.”
Jackson went on to define his playing style to PHF – his strengths and weaknesses.
“I can finish around the rim, and I can shoot. I’m not a very consistent shooter, but I’m a streaky shooter – when I’m on, I’m on, but when I’m off, I’m off. My strength is definitely finishing around the rim,” he said.
“Shooting off the dribble and my floater game are things I’m looking to improve right now.”
He, and many of his teammates missed the first 12 games of the season due to an overlap in football and basketball schedules. But Jackson has played particularly well of late for the Lancers.
“I’ve been playing pretty good so far, we started in the middle of the season, so that was a bummer,” said Jackson. “But after getting into basketball shape I’ve been playing well, these last four or five games I think I’ve averaged about 17 points per game.”
