The 6-foot-6 small forward played up last season with the 16U Florida Sons, and splits his time this season as a sophomore with Victory Rock’s prep team and varsity team.
So far though, Akec has seen little recruitment, just one letter to date that he knows of.
“I got a letter from UCF and that is all so far, just one letter so far that I know of,” said Akec. “I don’t really worry about that, I just want to get better as a player right now. And when I get older I will think about that because that’s when it will become more important.”
“Right now it’s just me getting better as a player, and getting to the next level.”
The 6-foot-6 wing says his strengths are scoring near the rim, and he’s working right now to improve his defense.
“I really like driving so I’d say I’m a slasher really, and the mid-range game is where I like to play,” said Akec. “My defense is what I’m trying to improve right now. I talked to my coach and he says my offense is good, but I need to work defensively.”
While splitting time with the prep team and the varsity at Victory Rock, Akec plays very different roles. “With the prep team I play mostly the four because we don’t have any other big players, but I’ll bring the ball up to even from the four spot. I do all things with them; score, rebound, play defense,” said Akec. “With the varsity team my job is just to come in a few minutes a game a get some defensive stops.”
