The Oviedo point guard spent his 16U summer playing with Southeast Elite, and that coupled with his successes this season as a junior have helped him put himself on the radar.
“I’ve been getting some interest and some letters from Florida Gulf Coast, Murray State, The Citadel, Stetson, and UAB,” said Smith.
“I’ve been texting a couple coaches and the others are just sending letters. I’d have to say Florida Gulf Coast is the school I’m seeing the most interest from right now.”
The 6-foot point guard says he’s at his best on the defensive end, and offensively he likes to push the pace.
“I feel like my defense is probably my best skill, and then offensively it would be my court vision, just hitting the open man,” said Smith. “I like to play up-tempo.”
He added: “My best skill right now is probably ball-handling, I can create space for myself. I need to continue to work on my jumper.”
As a junior Smith has emerged as the leader of his Oviedo squad. And says he likes the way he’s been playing so far this season.
“I’m the team captain, so they want me to lead the team. These past few games we’ve been starting out pretty slow but I feel I’ve been playing pretty good. I think I’m averaging about 20 points per game,” said Smith. “I just am looking to get recognized by some more college coaches.”
