His offseason play with South Florida Fastbreak coupled with his stellar junior season has even begun to generate some very initial Division I inquiries.
“I know Lipscomb has been talking to my coach a lot, and I’ve gotten a few letters from Central Florida, but nothing really major yet,” said Evans.
“I’m thinking about (my recruitment) a lot, I’m trying to improve my game and do what I can to get noticed. I’m letting my coach worry about it right now though, and I’m worried about my game and getting a lot better, and that (recruitment) will all come.”
The 6-foot-5 small forward – Florida’s 53th-ranked 2017 – defined his playing style to PHF.
“My strengths are I can handle the ball and handle pressure pretty well, and I can get to the hoops pretty solidly, and I have a good shot,” he said.
“I’m continuing to work on my defense and my offhand, which is my right hand,” said the lefty small forward. “I’ve seen improvements lately for sure, I work with my coach a whole lot, and I have a trainer too.”
Evans says he’s averaging 18 points, and nine rebounds per game this season, and after being more of a role player last season as a sophomore, the talented junior has blossomed into a leader for the Chargers.
“I think I’m the leader of the team, and they look to me when they need a basket, and when they need someone to step up I’m the guy,” said Evans.
“I just want to get past the regional finals and make it to state and win a state championship, that’s my only goal right now.”
