State Title Contender: Rocori
Imagine that. Two years ago they had three wins and now we are talking about them as a top contender. To be fair, the only team that is a true contender for the title is DeLaSalle but after that somebody else needs the label and the Spartans are amongst the top AAA teams after winning 24 games last year and bringing their top three scorers and four starters overall.
Top Ten in State Right Now: None
Potential Top Ten: Alexandria, Sauk Rapids-Rice
Alexandria has a nice group led by Jaren Roste that could push for 20 wins. Having a greatly improved Alec Wensman inside will help. I have faith that their talent will lead to wins although I’m not as confident yet in the Storm. They went from 0 wins to 11 though, maybe they make the push to 20. They seem to have the talent at all spots to do it, plus Rocori recently did something similar. Tech could/should be better than both with Chuol, Backes, Kaczor, Spann-Ford, Washington, and Mussman all returning.
Compete with Most: Brainerd, St. Cloud Tech, Sartell, Fergus Falls, St. Cloud Apollo
This is the beauty of this league. It’s for the most part incredibly balanced which is why their section (which contains most of these teams) is the same way. Brainerd, Apollo, Tech, and Fergus Falls all have a scorer they can lean on. We talked about Tech in the last section (they won’t likely be top ten in AAAA this year which is why we didn’t slot them there).
Building: Willmar.
They fell to three wins last year and we don’t know that they will improve on that too much this season based on what is there.
