About Zane

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I am a versatile wing that consistently averages above 55% FGP. I am a skilled shooter at all three levels that consistently goes above and beyond to further my game and the game for the team. I understand that defense is just as important and I work to improve my defense everyday. I am a very coachable player who brings my positive energy to every practice and every game.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

Practice is something that everyone does, it is all the self motivation and unseen hours that will set me apart from any other player. I stay self disciplined and work just as hard off the court as I do on. I do not need my parents to push me to do what I love but appreciate all their sacrifice and support. Yes, I have highlight reels but I film to see what I missed not what I made.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am on the presidential honor roll because my work ethic off the court matches my work ethic on the court. I am heavily involved in North Scott Community Enhancement, a non-profit that betters are community through projects, social interactions, and youth civic groups.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I worked for two years to raise the money to replace a worn down court in my community. Because the court was rebuilt to be ADA compliant, I was able to host a free camp for kids that have special physical and/or mental needs that limit their participation in other local available camps. This camp was by far my favorite to date and will happen again this coming summer.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

At 14 years old I left to attend prep school in Arizona. I took a chance to better myself with my families support. You don't realize how good your home life really is until you are away from it. I attended AZ Compass for 9 months and worked on improving myself mentally and physically. My little brother became very ill during this time and after 9 months I needed to return home to my family.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am looking for a college that I can major is business and actively have a role on the basketball team. I am looking for a coach/team that has a structured environment and focuses on continued development that can help me and the team not only do great in college but beyond.

He moved back to Iowa last year after spending a few years down in Arizona, and he averaged 8.3 points on 45-45-70 shooting splits after shaking off a slow start to the season. With his size, length, and ability to shoot the ball, he’s a player who is on the radar of plenty of college programs.
