Expert Analysis
Devontae Cobb | Prep Hoops Scout
A high-impact defender whose activity level and timing were off the charts. Sutton had elite defensive anticipation, rotating to stop drives, clogging passing lanes, and producing momentum-changing plays like chase-down blocks or recovery steals. Offensively, he thrived in transition where his quick decision-making and creativity in one-on-one fast breaks turned defense into easy offense. His ability to defend, rebound, and then immediately push the ball also made him a true two-way threat.

While my focus this past weekend was the 17U Divison, there was an open window on Sunday morning and a chance to check out “who’s next” in 15U was too good to pass up. Sutton is a well drilled player, who has a smooth way in how he sets up opponents to attack off the dribble. At his age group, he’s a three level scorer. Fluid mid-range pull ups, knocking down open threes and a nice burst to get downhill, finishing at the rim. And there’s the potential there for that to continue.
Sutton made it look easy against fellow 15U competition. Which should help earn playing time as a sophomore for one of the best high school programs in Oklahoma. Setting the stage for huge junior and senior seasons. Especially as he looks like he’ll keep growing and become an even more dynamic athlete and scorer.

A relentless end-to-end defender, Sutton was a tone-setter from the opening tip. Quick-twitch, locked in, and aggressive, he treated every inch of the floor like a battleground, disrupting rhythm, dictating tempo, and applying constant pressure. His knack for forcing turnovers, diving for loose balls, and creating extra possessions was crucial in a tightly contested game.
He maintained a low stance, kept choppy feet, and used active hands to turn ball-handlers multiple times up the floor. His lateral quickness and anticipation allowed him to cut off angles, funnel players into help, or force errors. Sutton had the stamina and motor to stick with ball handlers through screens and sharp directional changes. Offensively, he was a timely shot-maker, hitting key threes anytime the score got close, including a corner three in the final 40 seconds to seal the game. In the second game, he continued to show strong 3-and-D potential, knocking down catch-and-shoot threes with efficient mechanics even under pressure. When challenged physically, he welcomed contact, initiating it, absorbing it, and finishing through it while drawing the foul.

didn’t earn any varsity experience. But multiple contacts around Tulsa have expressed the high ceiling potential of the next twin duo in Oklahoma. It further checks out with the impact their older brother, Justice (2023) had with the Tigers. With an older brother who hit 6’5 and AAU season ramping up, the duo are an important pair of names to keep track on as they continue to develop before a potentially big sophomore year.
