Steinkamp is exactly why I like seeing players get into different environments. Coming from Eaton, he could have stayed comfortable, but instead he put himself in a gym with some of the better players in his class and showed that he could hang out with any of them. He didn’t just hang around either but there were stretches where he shined. At 6-foot-3, Steinkamp has intriguing size and versatility, but the scoring punch really caught me. He sprinted into open spots, came off screens ready to fire and showed legitimate range with a quick release. Once he was ran off the line he also showed that he was comfortable attacking the closeout as well and that surprised me. Now I want to see that same confidence at Eaton. If he’s willing to test himself against top competition at a showcase, the next step is bringing that mentality into his high school season where he can fight to play JV and maybe even swing. He’s on the watch list this go round with us wanting to see more.

Steinkamp is a player I was not familiar with who had some microwave scoring ability and didn’t need much time to get himself going. He found gaps in transition, sprinted into open space, and did a good job coming off screens, ready to score. The jumper was probably the biggest takeaway. He showed legitimate range with a quick release that allowed him to get shots off. When opponents ran him off the line, Steinkamp looked comfortable putting it on the floor and attacking the closeout. There is some scoring punch here worth keeping an eye on.
