The opportunity to compete in practice each day the past couple of seasons against talented teammates like Myles Herro (Ohio State) and Jack Lutz (South Florida, baseball) has paid off in a big-time way for Michalak, a returning starter for coach Andrew Wojik at Whitnall. With both Herro and Lutz moving on to college, the ball now is firmly in the hands of Michalak and he showed at Burlington he’s ready to tackle the challenge of leading this new group of Falcons. Although gifted teammate Cooper MarkeeCooperMarkee

(6-5, 11.4 ppg) sat out with an injury, Michalak helped Whitnall stay competitive in each of its outings with Burlington, Monona Grove and Oak Creek. His shot-making from deep, toughness with the ball and ability to get to the basket were big positives for Whitnall.
Tyler was likely up with the event leaders in charges taken. The Whitnall guard excels at sliding his feet to beat his man to the spot and drawing contact. Whether it’s coming from defending on the ball, or getting into good help-side position, Tyler is going to draw multiple charges just about every game. Offensively he’s no slouch either, as he was a consistent scoring presence for Team Herro
. He’s fearless attacking against size, and is so crafty with finding various angles to finish against taller players. Looks ready to step into a bigger role for Whitnall as a senior.
Playing up a year, Tyler impressed on Sunday morning with Team Herro. He’s a scrappy defender out on the perimeter, and if you give him the opportunity, he has quick hands to poke the ball free and pick up steals. Really likes to push the tempo in transition with the quickness to weave through players on his own, and the unselfishness to pass the ball ahead to springing teammates. In the half-court he can come off a screen tight to get downhill, but is a threat to score from three if his man goes under the screen.
Tyler was playing up at the 17u level with Team Herro-Hailey, and was one of their top performers over the weekend. Michalak showed he can stretch the floor with his outside shot, showcasing a quick release off the catch. On Saturday afternoon the opposing team went to a zone defense, and Tyler showed a side of his game I hadn’t seen before. He was so clever finding ways to get into the gaps in the zone, and despite being one of the smaller players on the floor he was finishing shot after shot in the paint. Great touch on his floater to score over opposing length. Helped lead his team to a 3-1 record over the weekend.
Tyler got Team Herro off to a solid start in the first half, playing tough defense and knocking down a few outside shots. In the 2nd half the Midwest Kings
switched to a zone defense and started to get back in the game. Tyler changed that though as he took over on the offensive end. He was penetrating the zone off the dribble, able to navigate through tight spaces and get into the lane to finish with floaters over taller defenders. Any time the offense stalled, Tyler got the ball in his hands and made something happen for his team. Big second half to help lead Team Herro to a win on Saturday afternoon.
