Teke Deng quickly showed why he has offers from schools like Kansas State and UNLV. Listed at 6’11, Deng immediately started the game with a tenacious standing dunk. With his ridiculous length, Deng can contest shots at a high rate. He’s quick for his size and showed that multiple times with chase-down blocks. As he goes into his senior year, I would love to see him be more physical and a little more selfish offensively. Deng is unguardable when he gets going. He has shown promise dribbling and shooting that is rare for his size. On a few occasions this weekend, Deng would make a skilled move with the ball and elevate over a defender for three. 

Just a monumental jump and growth for Deng this summer has seen his game reach new heights. While he’s a player I’ve covered for quite a while now, it appears many others are just getting their first glimpses of Teke and everything he brings to the floor. A legitimate 6-foot-11 prospect with a plus wingspan, players with his natural ability only come around so often.

He saved his best basketball for the end of the summer, taking over games on both ends of the floor with thunderous throwdowns and blocked shots seemingly coming from everywhere. The way he controls the painted area is impressive, but his biggest growth has come in how he operates on the perimeter. He can facilitate, attack off the bounce, and even stretch the floor with timely shooting both off the catch and off the bounce. He has dominated RecruitLook competition over the past few months and continued to prove that he belongs at the Power Five level.

UNLV and Kansas State are the latest programs to offer, but there are many more continuing to reach out and could extend offers soon.

Teke was everything he was promoted to be. The only thing he had an issue with was second half foul trouble that forced him to the bench. That foul trouble stooped a great run making six of his first seven shots that included a dunk off the opening tap, two more dunks in the paint, three jumpers from mid-range and then two threes. Deng rebounded well at eight boards in about 24 minutes of game time, and his length and agility was a total menace to the Mustangs. Dallas made their run when Deng had to sit.

Both baselines were full of schools and I would expect a number of high major offers to come in early next week when the colleges get home from their trips. One of the fastest rising players in the nation.
