reaffirmed that status throughout the course of his senior season— standing out with his ability to score from the outside with efficiency and confidence, whether spotting up off the catch or working as a movement shooter coming off different screens and pin downs while also showing comfort knocking down smooth mid range pull ups and getting to the basket for finesses finishes. As the season wained, the Cornell commit also showed some noticeable strides in his overall skillset— particularly with his facilitation and playmaking off the bounce, utilizing an improved handle and passing feel to create easy opportunities for those he shared the floor with.

With the benefit of having his college commitment in the rearview, Mateo is able to play his senior season with a focus on winning and preparing himself for the next level. He checked both boxes on Wednesday, contributing 18 points to the victory while showcasing some noteworthy improvements to his game. The senior guard and Cornell commit has previously been known for his perimeter shooting and connective passing, but thrived in this one as a playmaker off the dribble both for himself and others. He showed improved craft while working to his spots off the bounce and finishing with skill near the rim. Mateo’s passing is always fun to watch and Wednesday was no exception as he set up teammates for a handful of easy looks. He profiles as a valuable program piece moving forward in the Ivy League.

stood out with his potent shot making ability. Equally as comfortable and effective knocking down outside looks off the catch as he as a movement shooter coming off different screens and pin downs all while also knocking smooth mid range pull ups, Mateo displayed his consistent shooting mechanics and repeatable shooting form— a true compact and quick release, a constant off ball threat who thrives utilizing screens and pin downs who constantly forces closeouts and puts defenses in constant lapses.

should very much continue where he left off last season as part of a solid scoring attack in The Hun School’s dynamic backcourt. The Cornell commit is a confident outside shooter who’s just as effective as a spot up shooter as he is a shot maker off the bounce that can create a little bit of space and knock down shots from three point range. Capable of impacting the game far beyond his outside shooting ability, Mateo is often times seen countering his outside shot making with strong and purposeful attacks of the basket and getting to the rim. As Mateo embarks on the start of his senior year, look for him to showcase that his scoring ability goes far beyond what he can do as a dangerous outside shooter.
