has been a key catalyst behind Gill St. Bernard’s offensive production, regularly creating matchup problems with his versatile scoring skill set. In this sectional final matchup against Roselle Catholic, Highlander displayed several facets of his versatile scoring attack— combining soft touch around the basket with quick footwork to consistently put pressure on the rim, moving effectively without the ball to fill lanes in transition and cut into open space in half court sets, capitalizing on second chance opportunities on the offensive glass, and even showing the ability to stretch the floor as a reliable spot up shooter from beyond the arc.

delivered a strong performance that showcased so much of what his full offensive arsenal consists of. Utilizing his glaring foot speed and craftiness off the bounce, Highlander attacked the basket with aggression, generating significant rim pressure through a mix of swift dribble drives from the perimeter out of different sets Gill likes to run in the half court. Highlander also flashed his outside shooting ability, particularly off the catch, knocking down a number of open three point attempts as the game went on. Highlander plays with an extremely high motor and much of that energy also translates to the defensive end of the floor— pressuring the ball with energy and effort while leveraging his athleticism in the rebounding department.

Highlander possesses a uniquely rare combination of swift foot speed paired with his craftiness off the bounce to effectively score the basketball, particularly in the ways he found success putting pressure on the rim last Saturday— gracefully getting downhill in transition, capitalizing on second chance opportunities on the offensive glass, attacking closeouts off the bounce with swiftness, and even excelling as a cutter in a number of different half court actions.

We’ve seen interesting flashes from Highlander since he got to the U.S. about a year ago, but he picked the right time to put it all together in the most complete performance we’ve seen him have. In a matchup with a powerhouse Blair Academy program, the Cameroonian mismatch forward more than held his own while showing his wide-ranging offensive skillset. He was effective using his craft and foot speed to create off the dribble while also providing a post threat against smaller matchups or working the baseline for easy finishes. He showed off his shooting stroke as the game went on with multiple smooth makes over tough contests. He’ll have to refine his shot selection a bit at the next level but will benefit from a lighter workload, and no matter what we were impressed with Highlander’s competitive spirit to keep the score respectable as the game went on.

Highlander is primed for a breakout season as he should put his game on full display. The 6’6 guard has a high release on his jumper and makes opponents pay for giving him space behind the arc. Highlander can also get into the paint and can finish strong above the rim. He rips down rebounds on both ends of the floor and can defend multiple positions on the floor. Highlander is a versatile wing prospect who is looking to fill up the stat sheet throughout the course of the season.

Despite being shorthanded in the absence of two starters, Gill impressed with a gritty effort in an overtime loss to Holy Cross (NY) with Highlander leading the way up front. A hard-nosed and versatile forward, Highlander plays as a big man in an otherwise undersized Knights lineup, using his size, strength, and motor to make an impact defending the paint and cleaning the glass. He shows his versatility on the other end, with a sneaky skillset creating his own offense off the bounce along with the ability to step out and showcase a smooth perimeter stroke. Entering his second full year in the U.S. from his native Cameroon, Highlander should be firmly on the radar of scholarship-level programs as he continues getting acclimated with the American game.
