Expert Analysis

Ivy shows the ability to play off the basketball but he does most of his damage playing off of the ball. He shows the ability to screen off the ball. He shows some flashes crashing the glass. Ivy looks to turn the corner when navigating to spots in the mid-range. I would like to see him move and can be a threat slashing off the ball off of backdoor cutters. I want to see him improve on his foot speed on the defensive end, some quicker guards tend to beat him to spots.

Ivy is new to New England and is going to make waves this high school season. The 6-foot-3 guard is playing for Middlesex Magic and fits right in with their system — he shoots it well from three, he passes it well, he attacks closeouts decisively and effectively, and he defends with intensity and fight. He’s bigger and stronger than you think and is probably still developing his body. He’ll be a key player for Lawrence Academy this season and already holds a D1 offer from Stanford.

Ivy was one of the better performers during the scholastic period, when he took full advantage of the opportunity to announce his presence in the region. The Lawrence Academy prospect has as good of mechanics on his jumper as anyone around. He’s elite in catch and shoot situations, doing his work early to be shot ready on the catch. He moves well without the basketball and also shows the ability to create space to get into his mid-range game. He does a nice job of elevating into his jumper and has the ability to get it off at any time. On the other end, he’s a high IQ defender that does a good job of being in the right spot in rotations.

Ivy, a talented scoring guard out of Texas, makes his first appearance in the New England rankings at #17 after transferring into Lawrence Academy. An early priority target for high academic programs, Ivy has quickly asserted himself as one of the better perimeter shooters in his class. He’s gifted in catch and shoot situations, but has also shown the ability to get open off screens and make movement threes with the ball in his hands. He’s a plus athlete that has the ability to handle the ball in the half-court and uses a quick first step to his advantage when attacking the rim. Defensively, he has the size plus strength combo needed to guard either back-court position and makes plays by reading angles and timing his attempts to go for steals.

Ivy is a pure shooting guard that impacted the game with his ability to shoot. He knocked down a couple threes throughout the game and his knowledge of spacing and being in the right spots helped him get open for some of the shots. His jumper is quick and he wasn’t bothered by defenders on the perimeter converting on contested jumpers. Has a good skill set and showed it with a couple of crafty moves coming down the lane. He has good feet on defense and showed he’s capable of staying in front of players on defense.

sets himself apart as a three-point specialist, consistently posing a threat to make one, if not multiple, three-pointers per game. Despite not having the highest point average in his class, his potent spot-up shooting from all around the perimeter makes him a player opponents must account for whenever he’s on the court.
