showed a well-rounded skill set, finishing with 13 points while displaying guard-like abilities at 6’9. He was comfortable handling the ball in dribble-handoff actions and showed confidence stepping into shots, including a back-dribble into a three that caught the defense off guard.
Spees handled double teams well, staying composed and making the right reads instead of forcing tough looks. He also runs the floor effectively and happened to have a one-handed flush on the opposing teams shot blocker. Spees’ versatility makes him a tough matchup for most opposing players

The 6-foot-9 UC Irvine commit is a swiss army knife power forward that impacts both ends of the court at a high-level. Spees had an impressive outing against Garces Memorial of Bakersfield, as he put up 14 points, 7 rebounds, and most impressive, 6 assists. Spees has nice touch on the turn-around hook/floater, makes great reads from the top of the key to open teammates cutting off the ball, from the low blocks to open teammates cross court, and up the court off the defensive rebound. Spees has a smooth jumper he connects on with frequency, from the mid-range to the 3-point line off the catch or the dribble, has the handle to push the pace of play, or attack from the perimeter, has the timing and length to block/alter shots in the paint, and is a duel scoring threat off the pick and roll or pop action, as he makes timely dives to the basket with good hands to receive the entry pass, or square up off the flair action for shots off the pop. Spees uses his length and instincts to deflect entry passes, jump passing lanes, and turn defense to offense.

Spees is a lengthy and versatile wing/forward that can score in the post, as well as spray shots from the perimeter to pull bigs away from the basket. Spees had a strong showing on Sunday, going for 20 points en route to a win over St. Joseph, and a potential preview of the Section Championship this coming season. Spees crashes the boards with relentless energy, has nice touch around the basket on putbacks off the glass, limits the opponent to single shot possessions with the handle to push the ball off the glass, makes good reads up the court, or runs the floor well to get ahead of the defense when making the outlet pass off the rebound. Spees is a high-level rim protector in the paint, with the agility and length to step out and alter shots on the perimeter, uses the drop-step to evade opposing bigs with nice touch on shots around the basket, is effective with the 3-ball off the bounce or the catch, and uses the crossover to get by bigs that are forced to close out on Spees with his shooting proficiency, where he can either pop the mid-range jumper or get all the way to the basket. Spees looked comfortable playing out of the pick and roll, with timely dives off the screen where he looks to hammer it down. Spees is playing above the rim on the regular and makes quality passes from the high-post to cutting teammates.

Still growing with a frame to fill. He has a good skill set for a prospect of his size, which will only improve. He’s an excellent post passer, and ball mover, spotting cutters, and open shooters. He can put it on the floor with minimum dribbles to get dunks, and short range jumpers. He’s a go to guy in the post. We’ve seen handle, pass, and make cut out on the perimeter. He’ll put up open 3’s, defend his size, and get rebounds.

Spees left the California Live tournament as one of the hottest prospects and biggest stock risers from the 3-day event, as he would start the tournament off with a big-time showing and game winning 3-pointer over one of the nation’s top teams in Sunnyslope of Arizona. The 6-foot-9 Spees has kept the buzz going with a stellar showing at the Adidas Championships in South Carolina this past weekend, putting up great stats and impacting winning for Jalen Green Elite 17u 3SSB. Spees has the moves and handles to create shots off the dribble from the perimeter, is an efficient shooter off the catch and shoot, and has proven he is a true 3-level scorer with the ability to connect on the pull-up jumper or score at the basket with touch around the cup. Spees is a premier shot blocker and rim protector, has good instincts to switch off on smaller players to alter perimeter shots, does a great job on the boards with the handle to push the ball up the court, has good court vision to make reads from the high-post to cutting teammates, and runs the floor well in the open court. Spees is a great student with a 4.5+ GPA and currently holds offers from Fresno State, Boston University, Pepperdine, and Montana with more to come.
