+63 (#161 to #98)
Zabel, a guard out of the Hotchkiss School in Connecticut, rose 63 spots in this update and now sits at #94 overall. Zabel is a great decision maker when operating out of ball screens, shows the ability to consistently knock down threes with deep range, and has some sneaky burst as a driver when attacking the rim. His best attribute is his ability to run an offense, as he plays with good pace and plus floor vision as a facilitator. Defensively, he does a nice job of competing at the point of attack and isn’t afraid to give up his body to make winning plays.

Zabel makes his first appearance in the New England rankings at #162. The Hotchkiss School guard is a smooth operator with the ball in his hands, showing great change of speed and direction ability. His decision making in ball screens is solid and he does a nice job of also utilizing screens to get into his own scoring game. He’s crafty finishing over size and really good at knocking down shots in catch and shoot situations. Defensively, he really sits in a stance and competes, creating plenty of deflections that lead to turnovers.

Zabel runs the show for a Hotchkiss squad that has more than enough scorers and drivers, so he’s content just starting the offense and letting others do their thing. He’s a pick and roll maestro who uses his quickness to get paint touches and then makes spray outs or dump down passes with ease; he loves the over-the-shoulder pass to the big man popping for three. He just has an awesome feel for the game — one-handed pocket passes with both hands, head and pass fakes, you name it — and he’s going to make a high level D3 coach very happy.

Zabel, a true lead guard out of the Hotchkiss School, makes his way into the rankings with a spot on the Watch List. A crafty floor general, he does a nice job of playing at different speeds, keeping the defense off balance, and using good burst when he attacks. He always has his eyes up the floor, makes quick decisions as a ball mover, and really knows how to read defenses coming out of ball screens. His passing is his best skill, but he also shows the ability to score from behind the arc, both in catch and shoot situations and when creating space with his bounce.
