Lucero is a player whose first quality that stands out for us is  efficiency. He has a great understanding of knowing when and how how attack defenses. Last year he averaged 8.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2 steals per game, showing he could contribute well beyond putting the ball in the basket. What stood out to us was how calculated he could be offensively as he recognizes mismatches and finds ways to take advantage of them. He’s capable of getting to his spots, and being aggressive when the game calls for it. His 23-point performance against a talented Timnath team was a perfect example of the impact he can have when he’s aggressive and locked in. We saw several other double-digit outings that showed his offensive upside, and now it’s about bringing that mentality into every matchup. Lucero has the instincts to influence games on both ends, and we want to see him become more comfortable taking on a larger scoring responsibility. If he can consistently hunt those favorable matchups and remain active defensively, he could be one of the conference’s more complete contributors. Lucero might be better than we believe so this is the time to show it.

Lucero came on strong late in the season, showing why his 6’4” frame makes him a matchup problem. He uses his length and body control to score efficiently, whether attacking the rim or finishing through traffic. Beyond scoring he moves intelligently without the ball, creating opportunities for himself and teammates. On defense his size and active hands allow him to disrupt plays, while he consistently contributes on the boards on both ends. Lucero’s combination of skill, length and versatility makes him a player who can impact multiple facets of the game and can no longer be overlooked

Roosevelt has been on a tear so far and will be a team to look out for. They are deep, they’re complete, and they’re battle-tested. One of their reliable players is 6’3 SF, Lucero, who has been able to be productive to start the year. The athletic standout has put together his best 5-game stretch of the year, and it’s no coincidence that they won all 5 of those games. He’s finished in double figures in all of those games, he’s been efficient, and he’s also found other ways to impact the game. He’s put up at least 4 rebounds and 3 assists in that stretch and has been looking like a player that should be on more radars. He jumps on the rankings for the first time, and we certainly want to see more of him.
