Expert Analysis
Ari Rosenfeld | Prep Hoops Scout
Facing a 20-point deficit late in the third quarter, Bess flipped a switch and began to will his team back into the game, ultimately falling by 3 points but putting on an impressive individual display in the process. Bess got loose for 23 points in a showcase of the shotmaking ability that’s become his trademark across his high school career. He shows a quick and confident release off the catch with great instincts for finding open space on the perimeter, knocking down 4 of his 11 attempts from beyond the arc. He’d also flash some straight-line punch off the bounce and ability to make some playmaking reads in open space. There’s clear plug-and-play value with Bess at the scholarship level as a rangy shotmaker.

Bess knocked down a catch and shoot three from the left corner and followed it with a clean steal that led to a strong drive to draw a foul. He attacked going left and came back right through contact for another tough finish. He secured an offensive rebound to draw another foul, staying aggressive and refusing to settle. He executed with a sharp pass from Arrington on the wing that set up an and one layup.

He has the ability to score in bunches, and his movement off the ball makes him highly effective. With a high, fluid release, he needs only minimal space to shoot efficiently. I have seen him on many occasions score consistently from the perimeter, and his performance has drawn the attention of numerous coaches.

He’s one of the most dynamic individual scorers in the city. He creates off the bounce with ease, shoots confidently from deep, and operates smoothly in the midrange. Defensively, he’s versatile, capable of guarding multiple positions thanks to his length, footwork, and instincts.

The Ravens are absolutely stacked with D1 guards and it looks as if they are hiding another one in their rotation. We believe Bess should carve out a bigger role next season and should be asked to contribute more. Bess is athletic, can score over guards, drives by defenders, can defend multiple positions and can play above the rim. This offseason should be a big one for the rising Junior who definitely has D1 potential we just have to see how much of a jump he can make.
