The end of the road for Lutheran West as they’ve been one of the best teams in northeast Ohio for the past three seasons. Meyer left it all on the court as the senior was incredibly effective scoring in the paint. I thought Meyer had a couple tough lefty finishes at the rim and his baseline slam dunk was the last life that the Longhorns had as the game was winding down. With numerous top Division III programs recruiting Meyer hard, he’s got the skillset to be an all-conference performer at the college level.

Meyer is a big physical kid who is a nice mix between throwback and modern-day. He is a throwback because he is a strong physical forward but he does not run to the three-point line every time. He uses his size to be a monster on the boards and puts his head down to get to the rim. When he has the ball with a head of steam he will get to the rim and get buckets. He is a nice modern-day player because he moves so well and is versatile. He can guard and play multiple positions. He does a great job of playing fast and slow. He was a tough player to stop on Saturday.

Lutheran West had a balanced scoring effort with no standout performer emerging until the fourth quarter. That’s when Meyer really turned it on with numerous finishes at the rim by using his craft, size and athleticism. Meyer can finish with either hand and has the explosiveness to finish above the rim and his slam dunk capped off a tough victory. His versatility defensively also makes him an interesting recruit at the college level. If the Longhorns can continue to spread the wealth offensively and knock down shots, they’ll be a tough team to beat in Division III.

The second Lutheran West Longhorn to be featured in this series, I expect college programs to be very interested in watching the Longhorns 2025 class that includes

is a little bigger bodied than his twin brother and does a nice job of being physical in the paint. The righty of the duo, Meyer has been a consistent presence in the paint by boxing out, rebounding and playing big. Might end up seeing some more offense from Meyer as a senior considering the talent that graduated from Lutheran West last season.

Lutheran West got a gritty victory over STVM at the buzzer and it was won with strong efforts by Meyer and Derek Fairley Derek Fairley 6'1" | CG Lutheran West | 2024 State OH . I could’ve picked either prospect but I chose Meyer for his interior scoring and toughness. Meyer had a strong dunk, finished an alley-oop layup and had some patient finishes in the post. Meyer’s dunk with two minutes to play gave the Longhorns to lead and they held on to remain unbeaten.

Lutheran West has been one of the biggest surprises in the state with their impressive early season play and while their 2024 guards have been getting it done, 2025 forward

has also been huge for the Longhorns. Meyer has a good body and has nimble feet for a player of his size. I thought his hands were also soft, catching passes from his guards on dribble drive plays and he showed a little touch from the 10-15 foot range as well.

Lutheran West has been one of the surprise stories of the season and Meyer is one of their handful of players that have stood out early in the season. Getting the start at center as just a Sophomore, Meyer had an impact on the game early with an impressive and-1 finish off a dump off pass. Meyer has a good frame and was physical in the paint. I was also impressed with how calm Meyer was with the ball in his hands, showcasing a little potential perimeter-based play down the line. Matthew also has a twin brother Joshua who got some action for the Longhorns, this forward duo will be one to watch in northeast Ohio for the next couple seasons.
