Marcus didn’t shoot the ball well in the first half, but responded in the second and came up big down the stretch to lead his team past Mound-Westonka. Over the last 1:20, Marcus drained a tough three to give his team the lead, and then hit 3 of 4 free throws down the stretch to close out the game. He’s a shifty guard who can create his own shots with ease, having no problem creating separation for a pull-up jumper. Looks like the type of player who could go off for 30+ on multiple occasions this season as he has loads of confidence, and seems to have the green light to attack.

Marcus has proven himself to be a top volume scorer in his class, always looking to get it going from the perimeter. He has deep range and is capable of hitting tough looks off the dribble from well beyond the three-point line. His handle and bag of moves also looks improved, being able to blow by defenders to get inside. Horton is a true three level scorer who is going to put up big numbers in his senior season at Jefferson.

There aren’t many players in the metro area who can heat up quicker than Marcus. Once he sees a couple of threes drop, he can just take a game over. In the game I watched Marcus showcased a shifty handle to beat his initial defender, and was getting to the rim early and often for high percentage finishes at the rim. That quick burst started to force defenders to sag off him a bit, and he took advantage draining a handful of second half 3’s. Could put up some big scoring numbers this winter for Jefferson.

Marcus was one of the best pure scorers I saw this weekend and he has so many ways he can go and create a shot for himself. He was knocking down looks from beyond the arc, having the ability to create space from defenders with step-backs and side-steps. He was also slashing to the rim with power, being able to finish through contact to draw fouls and get to the line. Horton is likely going to be one of the leading scorers in Minnesota high school basketball next season at Bloomington Jefferson.
