Marcus Hancock
About Marcus
Expert Analysis
Eric Wallace | Prep Hoops Scout
An All-IAC selection, Hancock has established himself as one of the premier perimeter scorers in the area, averaging over 15 points per game while knocking down nearly 100 three-point field goals this season. A sharp-shooting guard with decent positional size, he combines polished footwork with a quick, compact release that makes him extremely difficult to locate and contest on the perimeter. Simply put, Hancock is an elite shot maker.

Once again Marcus came out to an event and lit up the floor with his shooting. He showed again every bit of a lethal 3&D wing, hitting shot after shot. When a player has found their niche and sticks to it, everyone on the floor gets a bit better. That’s what Marcus has brought to the game not just this weekend but in a magnitude of games for SSASA. Hard to watch one of their games without seeing Marcus go for at least 12 points on 4 three. Even when the defense committed to cutting off the catch-and-shoot prowess of Marcus, he was able to put the ball down on the floor and get to the basket or pull up in the midrange. True definition of an eye-catching guard.

could burden an even bigger load for this group. However, he still made a lasting impression. Hancock showcased a polished, all-around game with the size, feel, and creation instincts. He stood out as their main source of offense but appeared comfortable finding chances as an on or off-ball threat. Hancock consistently created for others and scored the ball from all levels. He wreaked havoc defensively to contain his assignment and force turnovers. Hancock rebounded the ball at a high rate and pushed the break effectively in transition. Given his current ability and overall toolkit, it’s easy to see his game continuing to blossom. Finished the game with 13 points, 3-6 from the 3pt line, 4 rebounds and 1 assist.

Marcus left each game with north of 20 points, just torching the opposition by way of the 3. Any inch of space given to Marcus resulted in a buried three-point shot. While cashing in on shots offensively, Marcus contributed greatly to the defensive side of the ball. Showed up to play and executed well in both games at the Gov Challenge. Big part in SSASA’s championship run and was lethal throughout.

Hancock’s bread and butter is his ability to knockdown shots on the perimeter if his feet are set there is a high chance he is converting from deep. He shoots a clean ball and is very effective at hunting for his own shot. I like how he likes to get in the mix on the glass and finds ways to rebound the ball. As of now he is a straight two guard but think if he improved his ball skills he could potentially become a combo-guard which would make him more appealing to college programs. He is a prospect who would be a great fit at the postgrad level, division two level or the junior college level.

One of Virginia’s top shooters, Hancock continued his breakout senior season with back-to-back 20+ point games, helping lead SSSAA to a championship in Maryland. Hancock is an elite shot maker who is shooting over 46% on the season from the beyond the arc. His combination of positional size, consistent footwork and a quick release make him very difficult to find and contest shots on the perimeter. College coaches looking for a sharp shooter should look no further than Hancock.

played an excellent game against Miller. I’ve talked about Marcus a couple of times over the past two weeks because of what he does off the ball. He’s an elite shooter and is a terrific asset to have on the court. Teams respect that ability, and it creates space. He had an efficient 21 vs. Miller and hit 5/7 from three.

is an elite shooter, and the past few times I have watched him, he has grown his offensive game. Marcus is good off the ball, and his ability to shoot quickly from all over the court makes him a great player.
