This top ranked power forward brings a standout post presence to every game he participates in. While competing at the High School Circuit tournament, Thomas put his dynamic game-changing defensive productivity on full display. Thomas had the paint on lockdown, anything that came inside his house was met with force, physical contact, and rejection. The 6-foot-7 defensive anchor covered the paint extremely well block to block showing elite quickness rotating from one defender to another while showcasing ultra awareness and effort as a helpside defender where he was always a very reliable teammate who communicated loudly and constantly stepped up to protect the rim with his body and massive reach. As a shot blocker, M.J.’s timing was unbelievable, the way he stuffed shots before the ball got to it’s peak or even out of his opponent’s hand was on another level, his explosiveness on his first and second jumps are going to propel Thomas on the defensive end at the college level. Right now, Denton’s M.J. Thomas is continuously proving that he can absolutely effect the game without dominating the ball.

MO
has put up some of the craziest stat lines you’ll see this season, we’re only a couple of weeks in and he already has three 20-point, double-digit rebounding games, including a performance where Thomas went for 20 points and 20 boards against crosstown rivals Denton Guyer. The senior forward has produced a vigorous double-double in each game so far, which seems like a trend that isn’t going to stop soon; and he’s doing it all while shooting over 60% from the field and 80% from the foul line.

to impact the game, on the very first defensive possession, M.J. swiped his opponent for the pick pocket steal on the perimeter and started the offense in transition. But Thomas didn’t stop there, throughout his performance he proved to be a coast to coast finisher, someone that can start and complete the fastbreak while flying down the floor like a freight train with his head high seeing the entire court and exploiting the holes in the defense. In the second half of play M.J. really took off and dominated the game with his post presence, constantly ducking in the paint and floating around the high post with his hands ready to catch and score. M.J.’s strength underneath the basket was phenomenal, the way he snatched boards out of the air while being boxed out by 3 or more guys was truly remarkable along with his power to go up, draw fouls, or finish the play through multiple bumps, arms, and traffic proved to be a major x-factor for the Denton Broncos. This young man absorbed body blows like there was nothing to it, he often powered his way through his opponents chest and either scored the basket or drew the foul call, his knack for drawing so much attention down low led to several trips to the free-throw line where Thomas was good free throw shooter who made sure to make the most out of his opportunities at the stripe, making 8 of his 12 attempts. Well-polished, smooth, and unstoppable drop-step turnaround. Thomas was able to simply pivot and rise above contesting defenders for a soft touch jump hook or leap off of two feet under he hoop and pull the rim down. In the final seconds of the game,

took things into his own hands as he called for the iso and took his man downhill with a crossover at the top of the key followed by a crossover spin, and-one layup that capped off an awesome 24 point, 13 rebound, and 2 block performance for Thomas.

is an intriguing prospect with unique capabilities and an abundance of potential. Thomas has been a wildly consistent stat sheet stuffing double-double machine from the moment he stepped onto the Calvert High School campus 3 years ago where he immediately dominated the 1A division and proved to be a constant mismatch, too quick and skilled for most post players and too big and strong for most guards. Each season

led his team in every major statistical category and took home the district’s Most Valuable Player award 3 years in a row, along with All-Region and All-State honors. But it was this past summer where Thomas was able to really show the world what he’s made of as he competed alongside some of the top talent in the nation while playing with Louisiana’s highest-ranking grassroots team on the Nike EYBL circuit. M.J. was plugged in and instantly made himself a key to the team’s success. Thomas contributed by being insanely productive and hustling for everything. He brought a special type of energy, controlled effort, leadership, and competitiveness whether he started the game or came off of the bench. Just a pure basketball player who plays the sport the right way and can do a bit of everything, he never forces his game, everything he does and brings to the table seems very natural, fluid, and often off of instincts and the flow of the game. M.J.’s impact and presence were felt each and every time he touched the floor in more ways than one. Offensively, Thomas is a consistent mid-range scoring and passing threat but a beast in the low post who can finish on either block with both hands. Defensively, Thomas can effectively guard multiple positions due to fast-moving his feet and anticipation for what’s to come. This kid defends the perimeter exceptionally well with tremendous ball pressure, great communication, and a know-how for when and how to fight and hedge on ball screens. Within the interior,
