Michael Schneiderman | Prep Hoops Scout
Alvarez provides 2 way production in an efficient manner. He is a knockdown shooter and can break apart a game in a quick way with his perimeter feel. On his handle he is deceptively quick off the bounce and will attack on tight gaps. He converted on an and1 tough finish in heavy traffic against more size and also had a couple other finishes at the cup. Selflessly he shares it effectively creating for teammates and having timely drive and kick reads after drawing help. His movement off the ball was evidenced by a backdoor cut and conversion. Defensively Alvarez sacrifices his body for charges against bigger sized bodies which swings momentum in a hurry. Most importantly he brings a lot of passion and energy to the game and his high motor provides consistent impact on both ends.

Alvarez is a solid sharpshooter out of Loyola that comes up with key buckets when you need them. Smooth shooting stroke that was on full display against Rockford Auburn on Saturday. Even showed he can create off the dribble and take mid-range shots throughout this game. Auburn made it a priority to have him covered as much as possible, knowing the threat he is from outside. Big second half in this game with multiple three pointers with an acrobatic reverse layup as the cherry on top.

Alvarez did a little bit of everything in a tight opening-night win against Lake Forest. He moved well along the perimeter to free himself for three-point looks, knocking down two on the night. He showed confidence attacking closeouts, using a controlled jump stop in the lane and making timely feeds to teammates — which also helped him draw fouls.
Defensively, Alvarez was active and disruptive, pestering ball-handlers and positioning himself to take charges, something he excels at. He also showed a guard’s instinct for rebounding, consistently looking for and attacking opportunities to secure boards.
