Expert Analysis
Van Johnson | Prep Hoops Scout
Fundamentally sound man plays hard on both ends of the floor, indicating he uses intelligence to complement his hardnosed style. Versatile offensive skill set. Can space the floor vertically, pop out to 3 with sound mechanics. Lacks a degree of versatility and upside on the defensive end. Upright mover with choppy strides. Struggles to sit down and slide with perimeter forwards. Doesn’t change direction all that well. But give you all out effects on both ends of the floor.

was solid for O’Connell as well. He finished in the paint, and his impact was felt in the paint on defense. Liam has a couple of nice post moves and does a great job as a roller. Liam is a reliable piece to a balanced Bishop O’Connell team, and he has improved a lot over the past few years. He finished with 11 points.

10p 8r 1b vs St. John’s (Beach Ball Classic)
-The guard play has been phenomenal in Arlington so far this season but Koelsch is stringing together consistent near double-double performances for the Knights. He’s got good touch from the low block, understands when to dive to the basket looking for a backdoor feed and when he needs to backpedal to give his guards space to drive, is a great DHO decision-maker at the elbows, rebounds the ball well, and provides some rim protection. Nothing he does at this juncture is spectacular but his steady outputs have cemented a clear role within the OC ecosystem. Want to see what he can do with his off hand as a finisher around the basket, but have liked his patience on the low block in traffic.

. Liam’s overall understanding and feel for the game are terrific, and he is using his size productively on both ends. Liam has gotten stronger, and he does a great job rebounding. He has been dunking the ball like crazy and looks like one of the best bigs in NOVA. I’ve always loved what Liam brings on the defensive side of the ball, so it’s good that has kept that consistent with what he has been doing offensively. He had huge performances for West Potomac in the Hammerzone Summer League and some solid performances with NOVA Cavs.

. Liam is a complete big. He can score inside the paint in the dunker’s spot, out the post, and is a menace on the offensive glass. He can shoot jump shots, and at 6’9, he is a load to deal with. He is becoming a terrific defender as well. Liam had a game where he had a league-high 38 points, and with West Potomac losing a lot of production, I could see Liam putting up massive numbers this season.
