Another gridiron standout that was hooping at Lloyd Noble Center was Booker T Washington’s QB Lathan Boone Lathan Boone 6'1" | CG Booker T. Washington | 2023 State OK . He had a team high 15 points and his first half shooting from beyond the arc was what kept the Hornets in the game.  Along with the points, he was a key part of Booker T Washington’s pressure defense that forced 17 turnovers on the night. 3 of them were credited as steals by Boone.

Lathan Boone Lathan Boone 6'1" | CG Booker T. Washington | 2023 State OK  was arguably the best defender and rebounder for the Hornets. I recorded eight rebounds for him, with two of the offensive rebounds leading to a putback. He utilized his athleticism and I.Q to lead to great box outs that resulted in the rebounds. On defense, he had at least three steals and he tipped the ball out of bounds or away on other occasions. Outside of his putbacks, he knocked down his free throws and a three pointer. He did a little bit of everything, but his biggest impact came from his rebounding and defensive ability. Great hands and good at his perimeter defense.

The Hornets are reloading this season with a few new names from the younger classes but one of the returning starters from last year’s state tournament team is senior guard Lathan Boone Lathan Boone 6'1" | CG Booker T. Washington | 2023 State OK . After being known as more of a defensive stopper and hustler last season, Boone is taking more of a role on this year’s team. He would finish with 16 points and was once again outstanding on the defensive side of the ball. He was dealing with what looked like cramps in the second half but that didn’t stop him from scoring 10 of his 16 points after halftime. In fact, he was scoreless after the first quarter and then got going from there.

While Boone’s longterm future likely lies on the Gridiron, he was a big component as the steady glue guy for last year’s successful Booker T Washington team. He’ll still be an emotional anchor and defensive stalwart for the team but will be expected to carry more of the scoring load. Which last year, he already was a 14 points per game scorer. There were times he really shined as a shooting specialist last season, but now as a main focus of the defense the senior is unlikely to get as many clean looks. Some of his efficiency and percentages may take a dip, but his production should rise.

However, in a few months, he’ll return to the basketball floor and become the leader of a Booker T Washington team that will have to reload after losing some of their best players from last year’s team. The Hornets had two absolute stars with guards Aaron Potter and Kam Parker. But the unsung hero of that team in our opinion was without a doubt Lathan Boone Lathan Boone 6'1" | CG Booker T. Washington | 2023 State OK . Boone is one of those players that you need on your team to make a run at the championship. He’s going to hustle every second he’s on the floor. He’ll dive to the floor for loose balls, he’ll create turnovers, setting up easy buckets for the other guards. He was one of the best defenders we watched last year.
