We saw Portillo come down and compete in the Spring at the Rocky Mountain Mayhem, and we’re curious to see more of what he brings to the table. He’s an under-the-radar wing who had a solid stretch to finish off the season as a scorer and rebounder. If he keys in on the defensive plays and owns the boards, I feel as if Glenwood Springs can make some noise this season. They have size, and he shows versatility out on the wing. He cuts at the right time, plays off-ball, and can also score from the high post. He put up just under 9 points a game as a sophomore. Portillo is aggressive, a glue guy, and physical, and can be a difference maker for them. I am expecting a big season for him and for him to turn some heads this season. 

Portillo showed exactly why the buzz around him is real this weekend. He stepped in with strong point guard skills, controlling tempo and keeping the offense flowing with confidence. What really stood out was his ability to attack off the bounce with a quick first step, decisive drives and no hesitation getting downhill. Once he turned the corner, he looked like a straight up scorer who could finish at the rim or pull up in rhythm. And when defenders backed off, he made them pay as a shooter from the perimeter. Portillo played with swagger, pace and a clear comfort level leading the action

Portillo may still be flying under the radar, but that should not last much longer. His game is built to earn attention, and the more people watch, the more they’ll understand his value. Averaging 8.9 points per game, he brings reliable scoring with a skill set that translates well at any level. He is a shooter with a quick, confident release that allows him to get shots off before defenders can recover. What really stands out is how well he understands angles, spacing and timing. He works hard to free himself coming off screens, reads defenders well and knows how to create clean looks without needing the ball in his hands for long stretches. That type of movement shooting is a huge weapon. As more eyes get on him, Portillo is a name that should continue gaining real traction
