Expert Analysis
Charles Yates | Prep Hoops Scout
Korben “KJ” Goodwin was one of the more physically dominant players in this event and he made this known in a first round win over La Porte on Monday. He essentially controlled the paint the entirety of the game and came away with a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds to advance the Mustangs to the second round of bracket play. The defense can’t sleep on KJ’s jumper either as he is especially good at shooting in the midrange and has the ability to spot up from almost anywhere on the court. As only a 2028 prospect, Korben already has a well-developed skillset and his ceiling is only going to continue to grow from here.

Goodwin is a dependable floor spacer with a knockdown jumper when given daylight. His confidence rises when left open, and he wastes no time setting his feet and letting it fly. His smooth stroke and balance make him a valuable perimeter piece who can stretch defenses and complement interior scorers.

Goodwin plays with a natural feel for the game, often scoring within the flow of the offense rather than forcing the issue. He showed mature patience, allowing actions to develop before exploiting gaps. Through traffic, he flashed smooth two-foot gathers and Euro-like stride patterns, finishing both high and low pickups with control. His ability to remain on balance through contact made him a reliable scoring threat at the rim and a steady decision-maker in tight quarters.

Active on the boards and a problem in transition. Goodwin consistently crashed the defensive glass to ignite open-court opportunities or leaked out early to finish at the rim. In the halfcourt, he used his size well to finish through contact in traffic. With his physicality and momentum coming downhill, he showed flashes of becoming nearly unstoppable as a straight-line slasher.
