Texas 2028 Rankings: Five Names On My Watchlist

In this article, I'll be sharing five names that I'll be closely monitoring in my local area. With the end of grassroots, I'll have more opportunities to watch these prospects. During the grassroots season, I've only been able to watch them a few times, but they've gained attention due to schools offering them scholarships. Let's take a closer look at these five prospects:    [player_tooltip player_id='2635012' first='Emmanuel' last='Nwabuoku'] is a 2028 big with good size and an interior skill set that gives him long-term upside. At 6'9, he has the length to impact the game around the basket on both ends of the floor. Nwabuoku has shown the ability as a rebounder and interior finisher during my evaluation of his game during the preseason. His defensive skills and imposing size make him a dependable force in the paint. Recently, Nwabuoku transferred to Houston Christian High School, where he will join a talented team that aims to secure another championship. During the summer Nwabuoku picked up multiple offers from UTSA, Penn State, UNLV, SMU, Vanderbilt, Stanford and Rice.     [player_tooltip player_id='2782591' first='Anthony' last='Key'] is a 2028 forward with impressive positional size and the versatility to impact the game on both ends. At 6'7, Key has the frame to play through contact while providing a strong presence around the paint. He can create advantages with his size and athleticism while having flashes of a perimeter skill set. Defensively, his length gives him the ability to guard multiple positions and make plays around the basket. Key will be stepping into a significant role at Atascocita High School, following the departure of many seniors to college. During the summer Key picked up two offers from Texas State and Maryland.     [player_tooltip player_id='2556690' first='Jaron' last='Couture'] is a 2028 guard with good size, physicality, and a proven ability to put pressure on the defense. At 6'3, he has the strength to attack downhill and finish through contact while also showing the ability to knock down perimeter shots. Couture is at his best when using his physical tools to create advantages and score in multiple ways. His rebounding and defensive activity add value beyond his scoring, giving him a chance to impact the game on both ends. Couture aims to make a significant contribution to Cypress Falls High School. So far Couture has picked offers from McNeese State, Florida Memorial and Texas A&M Corpus Christi.     [player_tooltip player_id='3558256' first='Kaiden' last='Smith'] is a 2028 forward with good size and an interior presence that gives him a strong foundation. At 6'8, Smith has the length to impact the glass and provide a target around the basket. He demonstrates value as a physical frontcourt player, and his size also makes him a dependable defender and rebounder. On the EYBL circuit Smith showed that he was a capable double-double threat in multiple games where I believe he will carry the same production into the season. I'm looking forward to seeing what his recruitment looks like soon during his junior season.     [player_tooltip player_id='2868007' first='Korben' last='Goodwin'] is a 2028 forward with good positional size, versatility, and a strong scoring presence around the basket. He has the ability to attack the rim, finish through contact, and use his footwork to create advantages in the paint. Goodwin also provides value as a rebounder and has shown the ability to stretch the floor. His combination of scoring ability, physical tools, and rebounding gives him multiple ways to impact a game. The Cy Ranch High School forward picked up an offer from Texas A&M Corpus Christi in the month of August.
