He scored in double figures in four games, highlighted by a 19 point performance that showcased his growing confidence and touch around the rim. Dawson was at his best on the block, where he controlled space, sealed defenders and punished mismatches in the post. Dawson is St.Mary’s 6’7 man in the middle, and he’s in the middle of his best stretch in his sophomore year. He’s been a consistent scorer in games as he finishes on the block, has soft touch in the paint, and good footwork. He’s a mobile big man who runs the floor, keeps the ball moving, and has moments when he looks dominant. We’re ready to see that be an every-night occurrence and for him to start overpowering defenders and forcing his way to the FT line. He has the size to really take over games, and at moments he does, but let’s make it regular. He’s averaging 11.1 points and 5.6 rebounds a game as a sophomore and believes he can up that. Now’s the time to show it as his team seems to be looking for that spark. Solid January for Kiesan. 

Dawson is impossible to ignore when he steps on the floor for St. Mary’s. At 6’7, he towers over most defenders and uses his size and length to impact the game everywhere. He defends, controls the glass, scores in the post and runs the floor with purpose and tenacity. He’s backing it up with production too, averaging 12.8 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. He averaged 11.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, and a block per game, production that immediately stood out. His size got him on the floor, but his impact kept him there. Dawson played with toughness inside, finishing through contact, dominating the boards, and establishing deep post position. He’s developing a reliable back-to-the-basket game and has even shown flashes of range, stepping out to knock down threes when needed. Opponents often had to double him on the block, and he handled it with poise. With a year of experience under his belt, Dawson is poised for another big season.

Dawson’s sheer size makes him a wrecking ball down low, comfortable finishing through contact around the rim. Bringing soft touch with the right hand, he is a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses at the 4A level. Defensively, he holds his own in the post, not moved around by the vast majority of opposing scoring threats.
