The GWOC has a lot of young talent ready to break out this season and Kelly is one of those players as he finished seventh in the conference in scoring and third in rebounding as a junior. Kelly shoots a high percentage from the field as he slashes to the rim and gets a bucket or two a game from offensive rebounds. For Kelly to take the next step he will need to show more ball handling and perimeter shooting ability, while still crashing the glass and slashing to the rim. Kelly also finished fifth in the GWOC in steals, showing that his athleticism and motor translates to the defensive end of the court as well.
Another prospect who filled up the stat sheet and ended among the league leaders in a handful of statistical categories, Kelly finished seventh in scoring, third in rebounding and fifth in steals in the loaded GWOC. Those three stats kind of describe the style of play you get from the talented 2028 wing forward. Kelly is best when he’s slashing to the basket, crashing the offensive glass and using his long arms to create steals and get out in transition. Hoping to see Kelly eventually expand his game to including knocking down 3-point shots but also want him to continue to focus on what makes him productive right now and that’s his high motor, athleticism, slashing ability and defensive impact.
Kelly is a tall and extremely long guard with super high potential. He is a nice athlete who explodes to the rim when he dunks it. He has a quick jump and gets on the rim quick. He is a disruptive and versatile defender. He is super active on both ends of the floor. Showed elite coast-to-coast ability. When he starts putting more tools in his bag, it will be scary.
Kelly was productive in Rock Hill for a Phenom United 15 U team that went on a nice run in the Palmetto Road Championship. Kelly is an athletic forward who plays with a high motor and wants to run in transition, crash the offensive glass and cut to the basket. I’m impressed that Kelly is able to play a role on his team with such energy and works to get himself opportunities to score at the rim. Northmont could be a sneaky team in the GWOC this season and Kelly is a crucial young building block for their program.
Phenom United 15 U blew out their opposition on Friday morning with a guard dominated effort. I already spotlighted three of their standout guards in my other article from today which leaves Kelly as the last remaining standout performer. Kelly is an athletic wing forward who runs the floor, can jump and is active in the paint. When you already have impressive athletic ability and combine basic skills like motor, finishing and rebounding, you have a strong chance of being a productive player at the 15 U level. I’ll be curious if Kelly can add to his perimeter skill but I love that he flat out competes every time I’ve seen him play.
