Expert Analysis
Ari Rosenfeld | Prep Hoops Scout
The key returning piece for the defending 5A district champs, Ragsdale has made the important step from complementary piece to focal point as he enters his upperclass years. A versatile lefty, he’s an inside-out scoring threat with a feel for finding soft spots in the defense and soft touch as a finisher and shotmaker from all over the floor. He’s also shown growth in his ability to put the ball on the deck and create his own offense. Defensively, he brings a solid presence on the interior with the mobility to stay in front of quicker forwards and even some wings. He’s a bit of a tweener at the D1 level but profiles as a safe bet to be prioritized by PSAC schools over the next year.

A consistent focal point for the Cardinals up front, Ragsdale was somewhat uncharacteristically quiet but still posted an efficient double-figure effort in support of the win. The southpaw forward thrived as a decisionmaker from the middle of the floor, either at the foul line or from the top of the key. He was able to turn the corner attacking to his strong left hand off the bounce while also showing an elevated release on his jumper out to the arc. Ragsdale looks to have added some notable strength to his frame as well. He should have a good chance to emerge firmly onto scholarship radars as soon as this spring and summer.

It was around this time last year that Ragsdale first began to break out, stepping up in the summer for his first taste of varsity-level competition before solidifying himself as a starter and double-double threat for the eventual 5A district champs. The southpaw forward figures to take a further step this coming year, emerging as the Cardinals’ perennial focal point with his size, skill, and coinciding two-way versatility. Ragsdale is comfortable scoring inside and out with natural overall touch and a compact release out to the arc. He shows a feel for working himself free within the offense to score efficiently without needing plays called for him, along with bringing a world of versatility to the other end as an active and intuitive defender. Improvements in his ballhandling and playmaking feel will go a ways toward determining his ceiling but Ragsdale has established himself as a surefire scholarship prospect.

Ragsdale is a budding southpaw wing who show flashes with his athletic intangibles often in his game. He was able to convert easy chances within 10 feet of the basket. He played well out of the mid-post making things happen out of there often. He got to the foul line on several occasions. Ragsdale also was an active rebounder. He had 14 points in the win with most of them coming in the first half. He continues to get better with time and has some untapped potential as a prospect.
