Expert Analysis
Ford Griffith | Prep Hoops Scout
Ecker and his squad were battling all game, one where they were letting the boys play a bit. Despite not having every play go his way, Ecker didn’t let it faze him. One of his first buckets was a pull-up jumper on the short baseline after the defense dropped back expecting a drive. Later on, Ecker took one all the way to the hoop, and then took one from deep. Keeping the defense honest was one of his biggest strengths, but his patience was a little like D’Angelo Russell, waiting for his shot to open up.

One of the best playmakers I saw over the weekend was

. He’s a taller point guard, so he can see, pass, and score easily over smaller defenders. He likes to push in transition and makes good use of the outlet pass. Ecker is capable of beating you off the dribble and scoring on his own, adding a nice balance to his offensive flow.

Ecker shows off all the necessary point guard skills needed to comfortably orchestrate his team’s offense. He’s very poised as a ball-handler/playmaker and is hard to speed up. The lead guard for Minnesota Hoop Troop keeps his eyes up as he dances up court, looking for open teammates. During the game I saw, he made multiple full-court outlet passes to break a press. Ecker does well in drive-n-kick scenarios, ball-screen action, and in transition. Ecker has the total package a point guard needs for success.
