Brecount is keeping it in the Puma family, departing from Kentucky Basketball Club NKY on the NXTPRO circuit for Kentucky Basketball Club PRO16. He’s been one of the hottest names of the season and he could continue to trend upward with the increased exposure.

Brecount is another big stock booster since the last update. A big body who is getting better and better over the course of his career, John has turned himself into a scholarship level player over the last couple of years. With a big July, he could work his way on to some D1 big boards.

The fastest rising big man in the class, Brecount goes up from 91st to 40th in this Senior group. Patiently waiting his turn at Covington Catholic for the last 3 years, John has developed his game and worked to improve his overall athleticism to the point where is an above the rim finisher on offense. Along with the improved athleticism, Brecount has become a more reliable defender and earned his first college offer recently.

Brecount is one of the fastest risers in Kentucky’s 2027 class as he’s improving rapidly and gaining confidence in the process. Covington Catholic ran some excellent sets where Brecount just had to catch and finish wide open on the right block for easy layups. Brecount also had some tougher left-handed finishes at the rim, including one off a quick dribble move that flashed his skill level. Really exciting to see a player go from an end of the rotation type player to one season later being a guy the team relies on at both ends of the court.

This Covington Catholic team is loaded with talent and Brecount is definitely one that college coaches should be watching closely this month. The 6’8″ center moves well for his size, makes real post moves to score inside, and did a great job of rebounding against other talented big men on Saturday. Brecount projects as a high-level small college center that definitely could attract scholarship attention throughout the rest of this summer.

One of the biggest stock risers in Kentucky this spring, Brecount looks like a potential senior season stock riser as he’s progressing very rapidly. Brecount does a nice job playing physically as he crashes the glass hard for offensive rebounds and isn’t afraid to fly around and block a shot. A tough match-up due to his physicality, Brecount is too big and strong for many opposing bigs he faces. Finishing with his left hand consistently, Brecount scored off putbacks, as a roll man and off BLOB sets. A prospect who should be getting heavy interest from regional small college programs, Brecount is on the rise as he prepares for his senior season.

John Brecount John Brecount 6'8" | C/PF Covington Catholic | 2027 State KY is a force inside because of his size, strength and athleticism. He attacks the rim hard for dunks and crashes the glass relentlessly, going up strong with two hands on both the offensive and defensive ends, making him a constant double-digit rebound threat. He moves well and positions himself effectively in the paint to create scoring opportunities, while also using his presence defensively to block or alter shots. Some of his standout performances have included six points and eight rebounds in a championship game, along with a 14-point, 15-rebound outing during the same tournament.

A possible X Factor in for one of the top state title contenders this season, John moves up 17 spots from 99th to 82nd. Brecount has improved considerably every time I’ve seen him play and does not shy away from physical contact. On a Cov Cath team that lacks a really strong inside presence, the big man could provide exactly that and be a big difference maker this season.

A name that isn’t familiar to many, Brecount has legitimate size and has become much more athletic and coordinated in the last year or so. John should be a varsity rotation player for the Colonels and could be an X factor in the always competitive 9th region. If Brecount shows he can move well enough to guard multiple positions, he should push for a solid role with Cov Cath and could work his way on to college radars over the next calendar year.
