It took a bit of time for the AHA guards to get Izaak enough good touches but when they did, the DePoint vs Miller battle was fun to watch. Izaak facing, attacking left, using the shoulder to bump and then scoring with the left off the glass after creating that space with the bump was the score that left a big impression in my mind. Also liked the one dribble pull-up jumper vs Miller at the elbow, a very clean looking fluid make.

Izaak has a bit of versatility at 6’7 that makes him tough to defend. In the first half against Edina we saw him catch and face up at the elbow before attacking and finishing inside off of two dribbles. Early in the second he caught on the wing and was able to dribble into a post-up where he utilized his footwork to score inside again. Shortly after we again saw him operating off the dribble where he got into a pull-up jumper from around 15 feet and connected over a 6’6 defender. His ability to move and handle the ball at his size makes him so tough to match-up with.

At 6’7 with a hard charging aggressive approach, DePoint lands in the category of a guy that I could see get a serious up-tick in his recruitment, and get a massive rankings boost. I don’t have a mental tape measure but he looks easily 6’6 and maybe 6’7 like listed here. Scored a dozen a game last year at AHA and if he rebounds, attacks off ball, and shows the skills that we saw this weekend, DePoint will be a player recruited at a much higher rate than people expected.

Throw Izaak in with Duis when it comes to guys that 1) are going to have a big winter for their team and 2) are about to take a big jump in the rankings. DePoint played without nonsense this weekend going heavy at the rim to score, grabbing all boards he could, and battling through all the size that was running through the event with quality success. I think DePoint is a top D3 recruit that could be an NAIA scholarship guy, or one of the late D2 partial number guys next spring.

Izaak had three scores in the first four possessions. First he made an overwhelming post move against one of the better centers in the state to finish, then he scored on an attacking move sweeping across the lane, that was followed by a dunk, and then a dribble separation move beating the five off the dribble and scoring with a ten foot pull-up. The mid-range jumper was good and I loved the aggression that DePoint used going at the rim.

DePoint is a guy that I think should be a top D3 frontcourt recruit, and a guy NAIA schools should look at. Huge senior year coming.

Izaak averaged 1.7 ppg in limited appearances last year for Holy Angels, but has the chance to step into more consistent minutes now as a junior. At 6’5+ he has a long frame, moves well on and off the ball, and has some strength to play through contact around the rim. He finished the ball at a high level inside, able to score with both hands from a number of angels. Depoint created a bit off the dribble, ran the floor for transition opportunities, and was crashing the glass hard for rebounds on both ends.

Finishing the basketball near the hoop is the main thing that separates Depoint from the rest. At 16U, one of the biggest things is whether or not you can finish, and Depoint can. Whether it was off a rebound with a defender on his back or off the dribble, he knew his spots and how to get to them. What can elevate his game is being even more comfortable taking outside shots, drawing the defenders further to the perimeter. Doing this would give him more space to go to work driving to the hoop.
