Expert Analysis
Robbie Hodin | Prep Hoops Scout
O’Reilly is a strong-bodied combo-guard who is really effective when he’s coming at you downhill with speed. He’s a good ball handler and has excellent in-air body control once he gets to the cup. He’s also a great leaper and can finish with both hands. O’Reilly can also hit the three ball and the mid range, although he gets a bit shot happy at times. Some improvements in the passing realm would really be massive for his offensive versatility, but he should slot in at the mid to high D3 level.

O’Reilly is a strong-bodied post-grad from New Jersey who scored over 1,000 points in high school. He’s quick off the bounce and is an above-the-rim finisher once he gets into the paint. He’s best in transition when he can get a full head of steam and put defenders on their heels, but he can also hit the open three. Would imagine O’Reilly will be a great D3 player with scholarship potential.

O’Reilly is an excellent shooter from behind the arc and can get his shots whenever he wants or within the flow of an offense. His ability to come off of off-ball screens is what makes it tough for defenders to keep him contained. O’Reilly has a quick release point and uses his 6’3″ size to shoot over smaller defenders. He has deep range and must be guarded the second he passes half-court. He also can put the ball on the floor and get to the rim if needed.

O’Reilly is a sharpshooter from downtown and knows how to get his shots within the flow of an offense. His ability to spread the floor and make open or tough contested shots is what makes him a huge threat on the offensive end. He has deep range well beyond the three-point line. O’Reilly can put the ball on the floor and get to the rim if he sees an opening taking full advantage of his 6’3″ size over smaller defenders.

O’Reilly gets his shots up quickly whenever he’s looking to score the basketball. He has unlimited range and should be guarded tightly throughout the whole game. O’Reilly’s favorite shot seems to be the corners and he will rarely miss if left open. He looks for catch-and-shoot opportunities and is always moving to come off of off-ball screens for open shots. His high release point makes it difficult to get a good contest in time.

O’Reilly took a huge step from his sophomore to junior season and will look to continue that trend heading into his senior year. The 6’3″ guard is a complete three-level scorer with almost no weakness when it comes to offense. His tight handles allow him to get to any spot on the court and get any kind of shot he wants. He also has sneaky speed that may catch some defenders off guard when he drives past them into the lane for an easy layup or dunk. O’Reilly is great in transition when given the chance which can allow for open-shot opportunities for teammates because of how much attention the defense gives him. If O’Reilly can improve his on and off-ball defense his game will take a massive step next year and could make Ridgewood a dangerous school to face for next season.
