Mesman and star freshman Sanderson are really starting to gel and vibe on the court. More about Sanderson in Part 2. Mesman has started to realize that having a big time guard is going to free up space for him. The last 2 game he’s done a great job finding open spots. Mesman has been a warrior on the glass for Saline, showing the toughness that makes him a nationally regarded tight end prospect. In their last game against Lincoln, he found those openings on the perimeter and delivered multiple 3 pointers.

Mesman has been solid so far for the Hornets. He was huge on the glass for Saline. East Lansing was bigger and more athletic in the paint, so Mesman had to hold down fort on the glass. He did a more than admirable job in doing so. I wouldn’t be surprised ig he grabbed over 10 rebounds, and even when he didn’t bring it down, his tip kept it alive for teammates.

Mesman was matchup with 2 defenders that were up to the challenge. But Mesman has strength for days and he continued to pound and be physical. Despite the defense he scored in double figures and was a critical presence in the paint for Saline. The nationally recruited tight end is so important for the Hornets. When he plays well, as does Saline.

Mesman is a big time football recruit and is considered one of the best TE’s in the state. But don’t let him fool you, the kid can hoop too. Quite simply, Mesman was the biggest and strongest player on the floor and Salem just didn’t have an answer for him. He did a good job using his strength to win position under or near the rim and using his athleticism to finish at the bucket. Mesman finished with 17 points.
