Chess has been St. George’s best player this season and was a big reason why his squad squeaked out a win over St. Andrews yesterday. The Marist commit scored 30 points on a variety of shots, including layups and dunks at the rim as well as shots from outside the paint and beyond the perimeter. On a team that doesn’t play a typical towering center, Chess has handled lots of the rebounding and rim protection duties for St. George’s. He,

Chess, a senior guard out of St. George’s in Rhode Island, has been a two-way standout this winter and continues to add small elements to his game on both ends of the floor. St. George’s has a 10-3 record in AA games, good for second place in the standings, and has gotten a ton of leadership and scoring out of Chess this winter. Chess, once known as an athletic scorer around the rim, has really enhanced his game over the last two years. He’s capable of scoring it at all three levels and now does a nice job of operating as an initiator and decision maker with the ball in his hands. He’s a terrific rebounder from the guard position and does a nice job of defending both in space and in traffic on the defensive end of the floor. Chess will continue his career in the fall at Marist College.

The Marist pledge shinned on both ends of the floor. He plays a physical style of basketball and makes himself earn his points. He has an energetic motor that allow him to make plays. Chess scored 18 points with two three pointers. I liked how he was able to guard different positions. He made the most of his opportunities at the foul line.

Chess, out of the St. George’s School in Rhode Island, checks in at #4 among the shooting guards and #16 overall. Chess has started the season strong, proving why he’s considered one of the region’s top scorers. He’s developed into a well-rounded scorer, capable of getting it done at all three levels with his athleticism, power, skill, or touch. He’s comfortable handling the ball against pressure and makes good decisions as a facilitator. Defensively, he uses his frame to his advantage as a rebounder and on-ball defender. He’ll continue playing next year at Marist.

Chess is a physically dominant in-betweener who does ALL the little things but also puts up stats for St. George’s. The 6-foot-5 senior is a phenomenal rebounder on both ends and takes contact so well in the air when he goes up for layups—he’s an and-one machine. His shot also looks more compact and accurate than in prior years, and he continues to get more comfortable creating for himself and others. The Marist commit is college-ready right now, especially physically, and should have a massive year for a very talented St. George’s team.

Chess wrapped up a strong summer with the Middlesex Magic by announcing his commitment to Marist. The St. George’s guard has been a name to know in New England for a while now, but continued to impress and improve this summer. He’s got a powerful frame and plus athleticism, but has improved as much as anyone in the skill department over the last two years. He has the ability to play on or off the ball, knocks down shots in catch and shoot situations, and does a great job of getting out and attacking the rim in transition. What’s set him apart in recent months is his ability to create scoring looks in isolation situations, where his combination of athleticism, power, skill, and touch make him a dangerous scorer.

Chess is a 6’5″ guard out of St. George’s School. The 2026 prospect has been a standout for a couple of years now, but took his game to another level this summer with the Middlesex Magic. Long known for his physically advanced frame and ability to make plays getting downhill, he took another step as a shooter, showing consistency in catch and shoot situations, as well as when running off screens. He’s competitive, tough, and isn’t afraid to take on high level match-ups defensively. He’ll be a focal point for St. George’s this winter and is bound for the Division I level after that.

dominated as an interior scorer with his strength and skill combination. He plowed through defenders to get to the rack, using his soft touch to put in shots off the glass. He also hit a pull up three and slammed home a put back too.

Chess is a work-horse who is just a flat out basketball player who does whatever is needed for the good of the team. He made a living on the interior on offensive scoring grunge buckets. He never shy’s away from contact and embraces it when going up for easy scoring chances. He showed that he has taken a jump from behind the arc,a place where he tended to struggle in the early stretches of his career from at times. Chess does a nice job on the defensive end and can cover multiple positions. He is a prospect who should be a priority at the MM-/LM+ level.

Chess was absurdly dominant against MacDuffie in the first game of Friday, showcasing a well-rounded offensive game that included an improved-looking outside shot, a cerebral post game, and some nice dribble moves to puncture the paint. The 6-foot-5 rising senior has a college-ready body right now and can therefore guard multiple positions on the floor with ease. He’s also a really good screener and can find teammates for extra passes and kick ahead looks. He’s going to be a jack of all trades for a D1 school somewhere, and I can totally see him improving his offensive feel this season in St George’s egalitarian system.
