A skilled forward that can do a lot of different things on the floor. Really good rebounder for only 6’2”. Strong frame that allows him to guard bigger players on the block. Really good in transition with the ball in his hands. Nice court vision and playmaking skills. Plays well out of the mid-post area. Can punish smaller defenders on the block while taking bigger defenders to the perimeter and using his guard like skills to get to his spot. Capable shooter that knocked down a few catch and shoot 3’s over the weekend. Thrives off his versatility to make up for not being the quickest or most athletic player.

One of the most physically impressive sophomores that you will find, Johnson is a force around the basket for South Bend Riley. The 6’2″ bruising forward finished with 9 points and 10 rebounds on Wednesday night as the Wildcats defeated LaPorte 58-40.

Known as “Tree” Johnson, this extremely physical sophomore forward did an excellent job defensively against Northridge’s best player in the championship game of the Phil Cox Memorial Tournament. Despite a significant height disadvantage, Johnson battled with the 6’7″ Scholl and held him to just 9 points on the night. South Bend Riley lost the game 43-38, but the way he battled really stood out. Johnson had 5 points and 5 rebounds in the game. He is a consistent interior difference-maker for the 7-1 Wildcats.

One of the most difficult “omissions” from the Top 50, Johnson is certainly a name to keep in mind and will certainly find himself included in future expanded rankings. The 6’2″ forward is a beast physically. He plays through contact so well, finishes at a high level inside, and rebounds on both ends of the floor. After stepping into a rotation role as a freshman, Johnson will be asked to do more a sophomore for a good South Bend Riley High School team. We are excited to see him continue to expand his game.

The player I felt put on the best showing for Team 5 at the Prep Hoops Indiana Sophomore ID Camp was someone I’ve been high on over the past year— Dontreyelle Johnson Dontreyelle Johnson Dontreyelle Johnson 6'2" | PF South Bend Riley | 2028 IN out of South Bend Riley. He was his aggressive, physical self in the paint and on the glass, but what stood out most was his ability to create on the wing. It looks as though he has unlocked more of an ability to stretch the floor, and if that’s the case, South Bend Riley is going to be a dangerous team this season. Johnson was also one of the only sophomores at the event with true varsity experience.

Another prospect that was a freshman contributor at the varsity level, Johnson has continued to expand his game and that was on display at the Sophomore ID Camp. The super strong and physical 6’2″ forward loves to bully opponents around the basket and that is still where he excels the most. However, he has started to expand his game more out to the perimeter as a shooter and playmaker. Johnson flashed those growing skills on Sunday and looks ready to have a big year for the Wildcats.

Johnson’s impressive positional strength and physicality allowed him to carve out a role at the varsity level for South Bend Riley as a freshman while they went on a run to the Class 4A Semi-State. Now, the 6’2″ forward continues to expand his game and should have a breakout sophomore season for the Wildcats. We are excited that he has now signed up for the Sophomore ID Camp.

You won’t find many rising sophomores with the strong build and physicality of this guy. Johnson is 6’2″ and about 220 pounds. He is able to physically dominate his peers around the basket and on the glass. However, he pairs his strength with some skill level as well. Through the summer we saw him continue to expand his game by taking some defenders off of the bounce and even knocking in some open catch-and-shoot three-point shots. Look for Johnson to have a breakout sophomore season at South Bend Riley High School this winter.

Johnson is as physical as they come in terms of wings in the Class of 2028. His strength and positional physicality is what allowed him to carve out a role as a freshman for a South Bend Riley team that advanced to Semi-State. However, on Tuesday night, Johnson flashed some improved catch-and-shoot ability which would really take his game to the next level as a prospect. That continued development will be something to monitor going forward.

The strength and physicality of this forward stands out right away. Johnson was able to play his way into a role on South Bend Riley’s varsity team because of what he brought to the table around the basket. He carves out space on the glass, finishes at a high level, and can hold his own defensively. It will be interesting to see how he does while taking on a larger role this coming season.
