Caught Bates earlier this spring and the 28′ PG from De La Salle continues to impact. Pesky defensively on the ball while coming up with turnovers which turn into quick offensive opportunities. He has a low to the ground defensive stance and a nose to stay at the waist level which gives him an advantage to anticipate or react quicker on taller guards. He was playing up an age group all weekend long again but it didn’t phase him. He compliments well with a couple other talented players on the team which allow them to orchestrate positive offense within flow. Although Bates is primarily a point guard he can certainly score it from all 3 levels as a scorer as well. He will continue to be a tough out heading into his junior campaign.

Bates is an engaging guard to watch with Geek Squad and fits well at the 17U level as a De La Salle product. Uses a quick jab in triple-threat situations to create separation and has the ability to attack off the dribble. Maintains a low, controlled handle that makes it difficult for defenders to strip him. Shows shooting range and provides value playing off the ball as well. Defensively, brings intensity with ball pressure and good timing to jump passing lanes.

Point Guard from De La Salle with quick step burst and agility in open floor to compliment. Caught in early morning game Saturday and went off. Led team with 19. Uses hesitations and low cross overs to get by defender. Mid range jumper was pure from 15 going off the bounce. What also popped was his ability to finish with craft on dribble drive action. Gets into the lane and goes through contact to convert vs more size. Runners and floaters are all fair game. Defensively came away with a couple steals as well. Accomplished this while playing up an age division through the weekend.
