He created separation with deceptive moves, and his opponents likely had a headache by the end of the game trying to figure out how to guard him. On defense, Sawall was a pest and made his matchup uncomfortable throughout the game.

Damari’s skill and craftiness are next level. It’s obvious that he’s played a lot of basketball, and he’s incredibly difficult for defenses to anticipate because of how many different ways he can impact a game. If the jumper is there, he’ll take it. If he needs to play off the ball, he will, and he’s become a legitimate threat around the perimeter. He’s consistently productive, but when he really gets in a zone, he can be scary good. He doesn’t turn it off defensively either, and with his overall feel and versatility, his ceiling remains extremely high.

Despite being doubled and tripled most of the game, he still cashed in on his scoring chances. Knocking down multiple triples and converting tough makes around the cup. I also liked how he made precise passes when the Longhorns pressed, and it didn’t take him very much time to find the open man. Expect him to keep it going.

I fully expect Damari Sawall Damari Sawall 6'3" | PG Mater Academy East Las Vegas | 2029 State NV to turn heads throughout the fall and winter with the Mater East Knights. He is a confident prospect, especially on offense, where he leverages his handle and creativity to get defenders out of position. From there, he does a fantastic job of utilizing his touch to convert around the rim and from the perimeter. Opposing teams are sure to throw multiple defenders at him, but he’ll still find ways to get his. I also expect him to make his presence felt on the defensive end.

Damari Sawall Damari Sawall 6'3" | PG Mater Academy East Las Vegas | 2029 State NV sliced and diced the defense yesterday thanks to his wiggle and basketball IQ, pouring in 31 points against Santa Fe Christian. He makes it look easy at times, with defenders having an incredibly difficult time anticipating his next move. He seems to know exactly when to hit the gas and when to slam on the brakes. Helping him create separation on a regular basis. In addition to his strong drives to the rim, he knocked down four triples and consistently got to the free-throw line. His ability to score from all three levels played a significant role in Mater East’s win. If he can keep it going the rest of the summer, colleges are sure to take notice.

He is hungry prospect who plays to win every time he steps on the court. He has confidence that not all underclassmen have, and he wants the ball when he has a good matchup. Or feels there a quality opportunity just around the corner. Sawall fills it up at the free throw lines as well, where he capitlized often thanks to his deceptive pace and ball handling. Shooting 73% (57-78). As a defender he racked up 24 steals by staying active and using in instincts.

On offense, he was scoring from just about everywhere and had some really great takes to the rack in the second half. Which helped put the game out of reach. On defense, he utilized his instincts and timing to swat 3 shots. And he also collected at least one steal. Overall, his efforts paid dividends and the freshman guard will now be put to test against Durango.

Those numbers reflect his strong feel for the game and advanced court vision. Beyond his ability to facilitate the offense, Sawall consistently tracks down rebounds and typically comes away with at least one steal per contest. Making him a very solid all around player who continues to improve.

He was fairly efficient from the field, shooting 4 of 7. And I was also a fan of how he was looking for his teammates when the defense collapsed in on him.

He’s currently averaging 12.3 PPG and 7.3 APG, using his court vision and instincts to operate with an advanced feel for the game. Sawall does a nice job using his deceptive handles to slip past defenders and finish around the rim. Beyond his offensive production, he’s contributing on the glass at around 7.3 RPG while adding roughly two steals per game. Overall, he’s consistently filling up the stat sheet. And his all-around impact should continue as the Knights head into the Tark Classic and conference play.
