Expert Analysis
Bobby Lopez | Prep Hoops Scout
Powell has put together one of the most impressive scoring stretches of anyone this spring, consistently filling up the stat sheet and producing at a high level. Double digit performances have become the expectation, and more often than not he’s pushing past the 20 point mark. His ability to score from multiple areas of the floor makes him a difficult matchup, as he can stretch defenses with his range while also being a strong presence around the basket. Powell does an excellent job of moving without the ball and putting himself in advantageous positions, allowing his teammates to find him for quality scoring opportunities. His confidence continues to grow, and his quick catch and release jumper has become a dangerous weapon that gives defenders very little time to react. With his combination of shot making, instincts and efficiency, Powell has emerged as one of the hottest scorers of the spring

delivered a masterclass for Severance this past campaign, leading the Silver Knights with an explosive 19.3 PPG. A true dual-threat playmaker, Powell also paced the team in passing with 3.2 APG while shooting a powerful 40% from deep. His postseason was a similar narrative as the regular season, with Severance’s 15-game winning streak, highlighted by a 29-point takeover in the 5A state tournament victory. These dominant performances earned him a selection to the CHSAA 5A All-State Second Team, cementing his status as one of the most productive underclassmen in Colorado.

Powell had a nuclear weekend, establishing himself as one of the top scorers at the event. He was lights out from the perimeter, confidently knocking down shots and stretching defenses well beyond the arc. The shot making stood out most, as he consistently hit tough, contested shots from all over the floor. Whether off the dribble or the catch, he was a constant threat. was the unforgettable name in the Severence masterclass against the Wildcats on Saturday. His killer instinct on offense earned him a jaw-dropping 41 points on an unbelievable 9/11 (82%) from downtown. Powell couldn’t miss, and his massive spark of energy translated to his teammates so much that Greeley Central couldn’t come up with any answers. There is no debating Powell’s one-of-a-kind confidence as only a sophomore. This kind of production is special, and will take the 5’9 point guard very far in his future in the game.

Powell’s season didn’t begin the season until the new year, but once he got back on the court, he picked up right where he left off in his freshman season and this summer. Powell was on a mission all summer to prove that he belongs as one of the top guards in the class, and he’s been delivering. He’s putting up 18.1 ppg as a confident lead guard who excels with the ball in his hands and has also been finding teammates as well. Severance is on a 6-game winning streak and playing their best ball. They look like they will be a team that could win their conference behind their leading scorer, who has been on a tear this season. Trending back up for him as he’s finally returned.

As a true point guard, he dictates pace, understands game flow and consistently puts himself and teammates in the right spots. His vision allows him to read defenses and create quality looks, while his shot creation keeps opponents honest and prevents them from keying on any one option. Powell is patient yet aggressive, getting to his spots and making the right play at the right time. Powell had his moments of the summer, and we want to see more of them. He’s capable of explosive scoring runs and lights-out shooting, but we want to see that production against elite competition. He’s also got the tools to run the table and lock up defensively, as well as a smaller guard that gets after it. We’ve seen him play up all summer, but this showcase puts him in his own class with the other 2028s that are vying for his spot and he wants to move as well. This is where he can dominate as a shot-maker and prove he’s one of the premier guards in 2028.
